As most of the readers of my blog know I decided to learn Korean and – it’s so unbelievable yet – I did my Elementary 1 Module 1 examination on Saturday last week – and I passed it.
I’m really happy that I had the possibility to learn speaking, reading and writing Korean/ Hangul since it sometimes was really, really hard. Often I felt like a first grader who was on its way to learn the letters of the alphabet and I sweat when I had to try to speak and construct sentences in a language that is not even similar to German or English. But somehow I managed it – and now I’m really proud and I’m looking forward to Module 2 which will start in January 2013.
But I not only learned a new language – I was reminded how hard it is to learn things you’ve never done or heard before. After many years of teaching, many courses how to teach and how to motivate children I see my lessons in an absolutely different light and since I had the chance to experience the learning process like pupils experience it I changed my teaching style according to those experiences.
