There are many bridges here in Singapore but I decided to show only one – Alkaff Bridge.
This bridge – named after the prominent Arabian family, the Alkaffs – was built in 1997 and in 2004 it was painted in vibrant colors by Filipino artist Pacita Abad (1946–2004) and a team of rope specialists. It is a pedestrian steel truss bridge that spans the Singapore River at Robertson Quay. Alkaff Bridge is shaped like a light boat called ‘tongkang’ which was used in the early days to transport goods along rivers.
