Since I’m living in an Asian country I decided to go with the five elements.
It’s called Wu Xing (五行) and the elements are described as followed:
- Wood/Spring: a period of growth, which generates abundant wood and vitality
- Fire/Summer: a period of swellness, flowering, which overbrews with fire and energy
- Earth: the in-between transitional seasonal periods, or a separate ‘season’ known as Late Summer or Long Summer
- Metal/Autumn: a period of harvesting and collecting
- Water/Winter: a period of retreat, where stillness and storage pervades
I took the pictures in Chinatown, Singapore – inspired by the various shops and temples there.
Wood (木 mù) ~ sandalwood scrimshaw
Water (水 shuǐ) ~ small Buddha – fountain
Metal (金 jīn) ~ bells
Earth (土 tǔ) ~ potted plant
Fire (火 huǒ) ~ incense
