A WEEKEND IN MELAKA

In May I was in Melaka with two of my dear friends and it was a wonderful weekend trip. Melaka City is beautiful especially the historical city centre which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. The old red buildings are amazing, the streets are lively and on every corner you’ll find a colorful themed trishaw. But there is so much more to see and explore… come and join me (:

Share Your World – 2013 Week 5 to 7

THE BEST THING ABOUT THE FUTURE IS THAT IT COMES ONE DAY AT A TIME.

(Abraham Lincoln)

WEEK 5

1) ARE YOU A MORNING OR A NIGHT PERSON?
Definitely a night person, I hate it when the alarm clock goes off!!!

2) WHAT IS YOUR PREFERRED DRINK: COFFEE, TEA, WATER OR OTHER?
Coffee and fresh pressed fruit/vegetable juices

3) WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TOY AS A CHILD – AND NOW?
My pink doll’s pram and my whole bunch of Barbies and Barbie clothes

4) IF YOU HAD A CHOICE WHICH WOULD BE YOYR PREFERENCE SALT WATER BEACHES, FRESH WATER LAKES,  HOT TUB, SKI RESORT OR DESERT?
It’s a tough decision to make but I think salt water beaches and fresh water lakes will definitely be my favorites.

WEEK 6

1) IF YOU GIVEN $ 22 MILLION TAX FREE DOLLARS, WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU WOULD DO?
Ouh… 22 Million Dollars… it’s a lot of money… I think first of all I would initiate a foundation for prospective adoption parents to guide them (help of lawyers, agents and so on) and support them with money if necessary.

2) WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
I was born in the capital of Lower Austria, St.Pölten.

3) CAN YOU CHANGE A CAR TIRE?
Oh no… I admit… I can’t!

4) WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE TOWN/ CITY YOU LIVE IN. AND WHAT COUNTRY DO YOU LIVE?
I love Chinatown because of all the colors, the smells, the shophouses and the wet market – and food is sensationally good there. I live in Singapore.

WEEK 7

1) YOUR FAVORITE PLACE WITHIN TWO HOURS OF YOUR HOME?
It’s hard to say because the first year here was affected by work – so we didn’t travel that much but we definitely will do in future.

2) WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW OR MOVIE OF ALL TIME?
There are so many but at the moment I watch Korean Dramas – and I love it!

3) WHERE DO YOU EAT BREAKFAST?
It depends… when I have to work I only drink coffee at home on our balcony. If we don’t have to work we have some really nice and cosy cafes where we enjoy the morning.

4) WHAT IS YOUR MOST FAVORITE SMELL/ SCENT?
The smell of fresh baked Apfelstrudel and the scent of vanilla and coconut.

Share Your World – 2013 Week 4

ALL OUR DREAMS CAN COME TRUE , IF WE HAVE THE COURAGE
TO PURSUE THEM.

(Walt Disney)

Almost everyone has heard of a bucket list which is a list of things you want to do before you die. List 4 things off your bucket list that you would like to share with us. Assume that money is no object. Have a lot of fun with it. Would you like to fly to the moon, dive to the bottom of the ocean, live a month in India or learn how to tap dance? What is on your list?
{{This idea has come from Chris Donner over at Chris’ Qigong Experience}}

I really like this idea even though I’m not the ‘list type’ at all. But this sounds like fun and I think that everyone has unfulfilled dreams and wishes – and to write them down can possibly  bring us a bit closer to them. So here are four of my wishes and dreams:

1) BECOME A FAMILY
Even though I’m happily married something is missing – we both want to have a child but there are some circumstances that don’t allow me to give birth to a child myself. So we considered the possibility of adoption and now we are on our way… it may be a long journey, it may be a hard one but in the end every struggle will be worth it!

2) LEARN KOREAN AND TRAVEL AROUND SOUTH KOREA
After two months of learning Korean and one exam, which I passed and what I’m very proud of, I dream more and more of traveling around South Korea. Sure, I only know the primary general communication skills and the letters but if there were the possibility I would learn it faster so that I can speak to everybody when I’m there.

3) A HUGE LOFT OVER THE ROOFS OF SINGAPORE
Spacious, modern furniture, a walk in closet, photographs and pieces of art everywhere, wide open terraces, green luscious patios and a breathtaking view over the city facing Marina Bay Sands and the sea.

4) OPEN / OWN A LITERATURE CAFÉ
Old and new books, the flavor of fresh roasted coffee and apple strudel, comfy sofas and the possibility to take writing courses… and everything is located in an old shophouse where the senses are inspired.

Thank you!

thank you

Dear followers and visitors of my blog,

I never thought that there will be people who are interested in my poems, stories or photographs. But your support showed me that there are many people who do appreciate my work, stop by for a while, comment on my pictures and writings. Some stay and follow and some come along with me just for a short while.
Hence it is time to thank you all from the bottom of my heart, every one of you makes me feel happy  and smile.

THANK YOU!

Big hugs, Alexandra

Share Your World – 2013 Week 3

AND FORGET NOT THAT THE EARTH DELIGHTS TO FEEL
YOUR BARE FEET AND THE WINDS LONG TO PLAY WITH YOUR HAIR.

(Khalil Gibran)

1) Is your hair short (total neck and ear showing), medium (covering ears and neck), long (below shoulders) or extra long (at least halfway down your back)
My hair is something between short and medium, it’s my ears covering but neck showing. I like it but I’m on my way to let it grow longer.

2) What is your favorite color of hair? You can name your hair color or a color that you just like.
My hair color originally was dark brown with red highlights – but now I have to dye my hair because it’s almost grey. Last year I wore my hair grey but – honestly spoken – I felt really old looking with that style so I began to dye it. Now my hair is brown again but not that dark.

3) What bad habits – if any – drive you crazy?
When people leave the lights on (or forget to leave them on) even if it’s bright enough. And – I know that may sound a bit weird but it’s a thing that really drives me crazy – not to put the toilet lid down.

4) What are some of your favorite type of proteins to eat? (meat, eggs, soy, cheese, nuts)
I love cheese, it tastes great with nuts, pears, figs and some special jam. Every now and then I like a really good steak.

Share Your World – 2013 Week 2

LIVE AND WORK BUT DON’T FORGET TO PLAY, TO HAVE FUN IN LIFE AND REALLY ENJOY IT.

(Eileen Caddy)

1) What is your favorite color?
I love blue but – it depends on my mood – red is one of my favorites as well.

2) Favorite thing to photograph? Write? Or cook?
– Flowers and landscapes
– Poems
– Pasta and other Italian inspired dishes but since we’re living in Asia I often cook Chinese or Korean dishes too.

3) Name two of your best personality traits.
I’m open-minded and tolerant – these personality traits are really helpful when you have to live in an unknown environment, to do things you’ve never done before and to accept changes in your life.

4) What word or words are fun for you to say? And yes Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious counts as a fun word.
Yes, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is an absolutely funny word but I also like Chuchichäschtli [ˈχʊχːiˌχæʃtli] which means kitchen cabinet.

Share your world – 2013 Week 1

WE WILL OPEN THE BOOK. ITS PAGES ARE BLANK. WE WILL PUT WORDS ON THEM OURSELVES. THE BOOK IS CALLED OPPORTUNITY AND ITS FIRST CHAPTER IS NEW YEARS DAY.

(Edith Lovejoy Pierce)

1. Do you prefer shopping or going to a park?
It depends on my mood… sometimes I prefer a shopping trip, sometimes I prefer a stroll through a park and take photographs there.

2. Music or silence while working?
Silence while working but from time to time I listen to classical music.

3. If you had three wishes granted for you alone, what would they be?
Wish No 1: Health – I think health is one of the most ‘underestimated’ things a person can ‘possess’.
Wish No 2: A child – It is a dream we won’t give up for now and sometimes dreams come true.
Wish No 3: My own shophouse – It’s an amazing place for living and working!

4. Are you a collector of anything?
Yes, I collect antique jewelry especially brooches
